As new Officers of the Local, we would like to take the opportunity to say THANK YOU for doing your part in making our meeting with Don Stebbins, Terry Gohl and Staff a success. It appears that we are now in a position to receive new business. New business is vital to the longevity of our plant.
We gave our commitment to work with the Company to gain a competitive edge in order to obtain new business. If you have an idea or suggestion on improving the quality, production processes, etc. please share the information with your Union management.
It is our belief that we have one of the finest workforces in the world and that we are able to compete against the best plants in the world. Our new Executive Board has met on 2 separate occasions, one of which the Shop Stewards also attended. The purpose of these meetings was to determine what direction we wish to take in order to move our Local and the Bedford plant forward. Discussions we have had in these meetings have determined that one of our major shortcomings is a lack of communication. It is our intent to do monthly updates of grievance reports and major issues that affect our members. It is also our intent to address the membership through the monthly newsletter and the monthly Union meetings. Please attend the meetings and read the newsletter.
First grievance report
There are currently 39 grievances in second step. 176 grievances are in third step and 112 grievances are in 3 ½ step.
It is our intent to address the COLA arbitration issues and the grievance log as soon as possible. Our first week in office has been hectic, to say the least, but we feel that we are in a position to make progress.
We have also met with the Company to discuss the product volume and projected manning requirements through the remainder of the year. We will keep you updated on the results.

THANKS AND MORE THANKS--
I want to take this time to thank everyone who voted last month.
John Boshears
A sincere thank you to all that supported me in the election. Thank you for talking to your friends, making or hanging fliers, making or wearing pins, passing out candy, taking the time to vote, and for listening to me ramble on about it for days without telling me to talk about something else. I appreciate you!
Donna Daniels
Thank you all for caring enough to take the time to go out of your way to vote in this election—not once, but twice!! It doesn’t matter who you voted for, it does matter that you voted! For those of you who did vote for me, your support and belief in me is greatly appreciated and I commit to you to do the job to the best of my ability. Thanks, again, you are the best!

REMINDER OF ADDRESS CHANGE
Both the Company and our Union have had some issues trying to contact our members by mail and/or by phone. Some folks still have not filled out change of address and/or telephone numbers for the Company and for the Union records. If you have had an address and/or telephone number change recently, please take the time to fill out two forms with your current information and give one to the HR person, Robin Grandstaff. The second form needs to be given to Judy Harrison, either in person or through your shop steward. Thanks for your help in this matter!
ADDITIONAL REMINDERS
Taking the risk of repeating the same old things, we want to remind you to call the medical department to verify that any information faxed has been received and is complete. Several members have been terminated because of mechanical errors with the fax machines. If you fax your information, please take the extra time to call the medical department at 279-1109 for verification.
Shift transfers do not expire. Recently, a member found themselves being forced to a shift they had previously requested and could not get because of seniority issues. When the opportunity arose to allow the member to change shifts, the member was happy with the shift on which they were currently working. Thus, the member was upset that they had to change shifts. Please be sure to check with HR to verify that your current choice of shift and department is correct.
