From the desk of the President…
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
We all know that these are uncertain times, but one thing is certain. This negotiating committee is committed to bargaining for all 1,052 employees. We are fighting to keep the jobs in the Bedford plant. Now, more than ever before, it is important that we stand together in unity. In the event of a strike, we cannot forget that. We must remember that we are all on the same side. The hardship of a strike will affect each and every one of us. A few may be tempted to cross a picket line. Crossing a picket line will not save these jobs. If Visteon is determined to move the business, they will do it no matter which side of that line you are standing on. The result would be a divided membership. A divided membership cannot win the fight to save our jobs, wages and benefits.
The time is coming near that we may be forced to make some very hard decisions. When making these we must all keep one thing in mind….
United We Bargain, Divided We Beg!
In Solidarity,
Earl Wilson
President

COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE INFO:
Food drive
Each year since 1993, the National Association of Letter Carriers, along with millions of United States Postal Service customers perform a valuable community function through its National Food Drive. This year’s drive, scheduled for Saturday, May 8th – appropriately, the day before Mother’s Day – the Carriers will collect non-perishable food items across the United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Donations are collected in participating communities by letter carriers along their mail routes (except in New York City, where donations are received at Post Offices). This is the single largest one-day collection of food in the nation. Last year, nearly 62 million pounds of food were delivered to local food banks and pantries. This comes at a time when many of the banks and pantries are running dangerously low after the surge in giving associated with the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. This year, the need is greater than ever with more than 30 million children, men and women suffering daily from hunger. More details on the drive can be obtained at http://www.nalc.org/news/release/fddrfact.html or from your Central Labor Council, your United Way Labor liaison, or the Letter Carrier’s local in your community. Your participation is as simple as leaving a bag of non-perishable food either at your mailbox or the Post Office in your neighborhood on May 8, 2004.I encourage each of you to support the Letter Carriers in this important effort through your individual participation. Let’s do our part to assist our brothers and sisters of the Letter Carriers in this vital community effort.
In Solidarity,
Morton Bahr, President
OPEN LETTER TO THE VISTEON SALARIED EMPLOYEES & IUE/CWA LOCAL 907 MEMBERSHIP
Recently, a letter to the editor from Dr. John Reisert stated his personal views regarding the current situation at Visteon.
Dr. John Reisert is NOT on the Medical Staff at Dunn Memorial Hospital!!
Additionally Dr. Reisert, author of the letter to the editor dated April 27, 2004, should not in no way be confused with Dr. James Rickert, a Dunn Memorial Hospital physician who is the Medical Director of the Occupational Medicine and Workers' Compensation Programs.
For the record:
Dr. John Reisert has no current formal relationship with Dunn Memorial Hospital and has not since a brief tenure in 1995, nearly a decade ago.
Our Commitment:
As a major Lawrence County healthcare resource, we are fully committed to providing any assistance we can to Visteon Salaried & IUE/CWA Local 907 Membership and recognize the importance the organization has to the Lawrence County community.
If I can address any concerns you may have in this matter or assist in easing the present situation, please contact me personally at 812-276-1210
