INSURANCE BULLETIN
When the contract was ratified, our insurance with UniCare was reinstated retroactively from the last day worked.
UniCare will reimburse you for any charges that you or your eligible dependents may have incurred during the strike.
If you have not been reinstated yet, and you need to get a prescription filled or have a service that requires pre-payment, you will have to pay for the prescription or other service, then Unicare will reimburse you once you are reinstated. You will need to fill out a reimbursement form to recover your money. These forms are in the Steward’s office or my office.
We will remain with our current carrier, Unicare, through the end of this year. This means that you will continue to have the same benefits that you were eligible for before the strike began. The new medical and prescription coverage
will take effect on 01-01-05. You should expect your portion of the premium to be deducted from your check about mid-December.
If you have questions you can reach me in my office or at extension 6079.
In Solidarity,
Tom Jones
Vice President
IUE-CWA Local 907
More insurance info….
While we were on strike, some members made use of the assistance provided by the CWA Defense Fund. As of June 13th, (ratification date) UniCare became responsible for payment of those expenses. If you were provided assistance, you are required to reimburse the CWA Defense Fund after UniCare pays its portion of the bill. Questions may be directed to Dave Baker, Financial Secretary.
FYI….
Question: My brother retired 6 years ago. Will his insurance become the same as current employees’ PPO?
Answer: Yes it will. The Company is changing the carrier of the group insurance plan from UniCare to Blue Cross Blue Shield through Anthem. After the transition, all tier 1 employees and current retirees will have the same coverage. The difference is that anyone who retired on or before June 1st, 2004 will not have to pay any portion of the premium. Prescription drug benefits will be the same for all tier 1 employees and retirees who retired on or before June 1st, 2004. Insurance booklets will be distributed as soon as they become available.
