The election for the position of Shop Stewards will be held at this month’s meeting. Voting will be during the following hours: Night shift: 10:00 pm to 2:00 am. (Tuesday after work.) PENSION AND INSURANCE BENEFIT REPS If you are experiencing any problems or have any questions about your pension or insurance benefits, you may contact either of the following reps: Tom Jones at 279-6079 Dave Baker at 279-1175 TAX FORMS It is necessary, by law, that our union complete a 1099 form for each of our members for the amount of money received during the strike. You will need to include this on your income tax for the year 2004. These forms will be mailed out to each member around the first of January, 2005. It is very important that both the union and the company have your CURRENT address. You may contact Debbie Daughrity, Secretary for the Union and Chere Howard, Ext. 6088, for the company to make sure your address is correct. INSURANCE INFO If you did not receive a new network provider directory at the recent Fair, these are available in the Union Office. ALSO, as a reminder, NO prescription reimbursement will be made after January 1, 2005. B 113th BSB 76th INF BDE Camp Phoenix APO AE 09356 CHRISTMAS FOR KIDS The 3rd Annual Christmas for Kids Union sponsored event will be at Bedford K-Mart on December 18 at 9:00 am. According to Terry Kirk, Chairperson, donations have totaled up to almost $4,500. This should go a long way in helping buy Christmas for the 30 children on the list. CWA Joe Beirne Foundation Scholarship Program Origin The CWA Joe Beirne Foundation was established in October 1974 by the Communication Workers of America Executive Board to honor the name and memory of the founding President of the CWA, who served for more than 30 years. In his capacity as the first CWA President, Joe Beirne took great pride in the roles he played in the field of education and learning and other areas of social concern. On April 26, 1999, the CWA Executive Board voted to combine the Joseph Anthony Beirne Memorial Foundation and the Ray Hackney Scholarship Fund, thereby creating the CWA Joe Beirne Foundation. Eligibility CWA members, their spouses, children, and grandchildren (including dependants of laid-off, retired or deceased CWA members) may apply. Applications must be high school graduates or at least high school students who will graduate during the year they apply. Undergraduates and graduate students returning to school may also apply. Prior winners may not reapply. Scholarship Thirty (30) two-year scholarships, to be paid at the rate of $3,000 annually, are awarded each year to applicants from the U.S.A. and Canada. A second-year award is contingent on Academic accomplishment of the first year. Dates Applications are accepted during the months of November through March. Final deadline is March 31, 2005 Selections Winners are chosen by lottery drawing and only winners will be notified. Study Requirements No specific studies are required. Scholarship winners may pursue whatever courses they wish.
