In filling the duties as your Recording Secretary, I am in the process of updating our mailing list and have found many outdated addresses and phone numbers. If you have moved, had your address changed by the Postal Department and/or changed phone numbers in the last year or so and have not submitted a change form, PLEASE fill out a change form or just write the current information on a piece of paper and get it to me. If you cannot find me in Dept. 316-3 (Plastics), I have a mailbox in the Union office. If you prefer, your Steward would be able to make sure I receive this critical information. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter. Judy Harrison Recording Secretary The disappearing Made-in-America Icon In his 2005 State of the Union address, President Bush said,  « We want people everywhere to buy American ». So do we, that’s why we’d like to know why so many American plants are closing up shop. Could it be the billions U.S. corporations earn each year in everseas operations the Bush administration doesn’t bother to tax ? Maybe it’s because Bush has refused to enforce U.S. domestic trade laws, the first line of defense against unfair trade practices and import surges that hurt companies and workers in the United States. Bush has unilaterally and repeatedly rejected recommendations from his own administration to take action against surges of imports from China and elsewhere. In January alone, we saw American icons like the Winchester rifle plant close up shop, while Frisbee and the Hula Hoop were sold to a Hong Kong distributor. Earlier this month, Western Union ceased operations ending jobs for some CWA members(Communications Workers of America is a union that represents white-and-blue-collar telecom workers). Only a couple of years ago, Radio Flyer, the original « little red wagon » (which we once proudly sold at the Union Shop) packed up its U.S. operations. When good American jobs go away, how are Americans going to afford what U.S. corporations sell ?
